K 2019 With Positive Impulses For The Sector

Weakening economic prospects, poor public opinion: the conditions in the run-up to K 2019 weighed down on plastics producers’ mood. A whole different picture was painted at the end of K: the world’s leading trade fair for plastics and rubber once again lived up to its name and re- united well-prepared trade fair visitors and exhibitors brimming with innovations in tightly packed halls. The verdict on the part of the plastics producing industry is therefore correspondingly positive: many visitors, customers and journalists found their way to the stands, came across precisely the right topics there alongside exciting, exclusive innovations that had been “saved” for this K. By presenting solutions for a circular economy and recycling as well as state-of-the-art materials for more sustainable mobility or efficient use of raw materials the plastics producers very much struck a nerve. Commenting on this Dr. Rüdiger Baunemann, Director General at PlasticsEurope Deutschland e.V., said: “The variety of topics addressed at this K was enormous once again. Wherever you looked at this trade fair, you encountered ideas and approaches designed to tackle the economic, social and ecological challenges of our day and age. With this, K 2019 gives impressive proof of the fact that plastics are part of the solution in the face of current mega trends.”

K Special Show “Plastics Shape the Future”
The topics placed on the agenda by exhibitors were reflected in the presentations and panel discussions at the K Special “Plastics shape the future” organised by the German plastics industry headed by PlasticsEurope Deutschland e. V. and Messe Düsseldorf. Novel materials for greater resource efficiency, innovative solutions for tomorrow’s mobility, approaches for optimising plastic recycling, advances made in waste management worldwide – all of this made visitors throng to Hall 6. The special feature here was the involvement of virtually all relevant actors in society, be it from science, politics, industry, from environmental protection organisations or authorities, driving debate especially about critical issues. Proving a true highlight of the Special Show was the FabLab featuring students and technology nerds from Lübeck, who worked on their humanoid robot made of 3D printed plastics filaments
